Content accuracy

A social media accuracy checklist for car dealer content

Dealership content moves quickly, but speed does not remove the need to verify the vehicle, offer, disclosure, imagery and destination before publication.

A polished vehicle post can still damage trust when the price is old, the trim is wrong or representative imagery is presented as actual stock.

This checklist is a workflow aid, not legal advice. Requirements vary by country, state, platform, manufacturer and offer, so regulated content should be reviewed by an appropriately qualified person.

01

Verify the exact vehicle

Confirm year, make, model, trim, mileage, major equipment and stock reference against the current inventory source. Check that imagery shows the correct vehicle or is clearly identified as representative.

Avoid inferring equipment from appearance. Similar trims can differ in ways that matter to a customer.

02

Confirm price, availability and timing

Check the advertised price, offer dates, eligibility and current availability immediately before scheduling. Use a live destination that contains the complete current information.

Create a process for price changes and sold stock so social posts do not continue making a misleading offer.

03

Review finance and incentive language

Finance examples, payments, rates and incentives may require specific assumptions, qualifications and disclosures. Do not compress away information needed to understand the offer.

Manufacturer, lender and jurisdictional rules may all apply. Obtain approved wording rather than drafting regulated claims from memory.

04

Protect people, identity and rights

Obtain permission before showing customers, employees or identifiable personal information. Check number plates, paperwork, screens and reflections for details that should not be public.

Use logos, music, photography and manufacturer assets only within the rights and guidelines available to the dealership.

05

Complete the final publishing check

Review the image, video, caption, link and platform preview together. Confirm spelling, crop, safe areas, account, timing and call to action.

Record an approver for sensitive content and pause publication when an important fact cannot be confirmed.

  • Correct vehicle and current source.
  • Accurate offer and complete conditions.
  • Approved brand and manufacturer assets.
  • Customer and staff permissions.
  • Working link to current information.
The essential takeaway

Treat the inventory source and approved offer wording as authoritative. If a material detail cannot be confirmed, pause the post rather than publishing a polished mistake.
