Community and nonprofit social media guide
A practical social media guide for Community & Nonprofits.
Community and nonprofit content should connect everyday activity to mission and impact. Supporters need to understand the need, the work, the evidence and meaningful ways to participate.

Participate

Detailed strategy
How to build a valuable community & nonprofits presence.
Connect mission to credible evidence of impact and give supporters clear, dignified ways to understand and participate.
Explain the need without removing dignity
Describe the issue, context and barriers accurately without reducing people to symbols of hardship. Use preferred language and involve represented communities in storytelling decisions where possible. Urgency should never override consent or respect.
Connect activity to meaningful impact
Event photos and volunteer updates show activity, but supporters also need to understand what changed. Explain outputs and outcomes carefully, acknowledge what the evidence can demonstrate and avoid attributing complex change to one intervention. Transparency strengthens rather than weakens the story.
Make participation specific
“Support us” is less useful than a clearly defined action. Explain what a donation amount, volunteer shift, event place, item contribution or shared resource enables. Include eligibility, deadlines and what happens after someone responds.
Balance campaigns with ongoing understanding
Fundraising appeals are stronger when followers already understand the mission, people, partnerships and progress. Maintain an editorial mix of education, impact, resources, appreciation and participation. This prevents the relationship from appearing only when the organisation needs something.
Example two-week editorial plan
Six posts working together.
This is a planning example, not a rigid schedule. The strongest version uses current information, genuine proof and priorities from the business.
Make confidence visible
Trust signals worth showing.
General claims are easy to publish. Specific, responsible evidence helps an audience understand why the business deserves confidence.
Transparent use of support and impact context
Respectful storytelling with appropriate consent
Clear governance, partnerships and ways to participate
Using vulnerable people as anonymous symbols of need. Dignity, consent and context should guide every impact story.
